Metal Casting
 process

pattern
The pattern is a replica of the outside of the casting. Patterns are usually made of wood, metal, plastic or plaster. Pattern making is very important for industrial part manufacturing and requires precise calculations to make parts fit and work together.
core making
If the casting is hollow, an extra piece of sand or metal (called a core) shapes the interior to make it hollow. The core is usually strong but foldable so it can be easily removed from the finished casting.
Forming Investment Casting Metal Casting Steel Casting Lost Wax Casting
To visualize the metal casting process so far, imagine yourself walking out to sea on the beach. Look at your footprints on the wet sand. Your feet are the core, and the impression left in the sand is the mold of your feet. Forming is a multi-step process that will use sand to form a casting around the model. In casting, the mold is contained in a frame called a flask. Load green sand or molding sand into the flask around the model. This is called metal sand casting. Once the sand is compacted, the pattern can be removed and the casting will remain. Alternatively, a two-piece, indestructible metal mold can be created so that the mold can be reused to cast the same parts for industrial applications.
Melting and pouring molten metal
After the metal is melted, it is poured into the cavity of the mold and allowed to solidify. Once solidified, the shakeout process begins: the mold is vibrated to remove sand from the casting. In industrial applications, equipment like our double mass shaker maintains high output due to its efficient and smooth performance. The removed sand is typically collected, cooled and recycled for reuse in future castings. VIBRA-DRUM Sand Casting Conditioner improves the process of sand separation in castings by removing and cooling sand and castings and evaporating moisture, while mitigating casting damage commonly seen in the process. The end result is clean castings and sand ready for the recycling process.

In this final step, the cast metal object is removed from the mold and then trimmed. During the trimming process, any molding material is removed from the object and rough edges are removed.
modern casting

Today, almost every piece of machinery we use, from cars to washing machines, is made using metal parts made through a casting process. The difference between cast metal products today and those made even 100 years ago is the precision and tolerances that can be achieved through a computer-automated design process, as well as modern methods of producing detailed cores and molds. Modern metal casting represents innovation at work
